from Michael Musto:

The same day “I am a gay American” became the hottest catchphrase since “Shove it!,” the California Supreme Court routinely invalidated 4,000 or so marriages. The hilarious result is that Rosie O’Donnell is now living in sin, but McGreevey’s marriage to his beard stands by law!

I may have read that McGreevey had a first wife, and this (beautiful) one by his side was a second. “Beard” is a term for an opposite-sex parter or spouse or escort so one will look heterosexual to the public’s eye. A phony lover image to help keep the guy hidden in the closet.

I didn’t know what” beard” meant in that context. Thanks, I am now a lesser human being for actually knowing that.
