Years ago, when Jack Greenberg left the NAACP Legal Defense Fund to become a professor at Columbia University, he announced that he was going to make it a point to hire a black secretary at Columbia.

This would of course make whomever he hired be seen as a token black, rather than as someone selected on the basis of competence.

For people on the Left, however, blacks are trophies or mascots, and must therefore be put on display. Nowhere is that more true than in politics.

The problem with being a mascot is that you are a symbol of someone else’s significance or virtue. The actual well-being of a mascot is not the point.

Which accurately describes the treatment of blacks by the dimocrat party.

I just do not understand why black people refuse to look up to all of the Black Republican Governors and Senators in this country today.

Jindal is dark enough to be shown around the country as their token dark skinned Governor, and that alone should make blacks flock to the republican party.

There’s also that huge club of black governors and black senators that are Dems.

That still shows that blacks have over a 100 percent better chance of becoming leaders in the democrat party. smile

Obama did not become the leader he is by just being a token black or mascot. He has been a very smart man in raising up through the party so quickly
and being well on his way to becoming the first Black President. Hillary failed to take him as a serious candidate in the beginning, not because he was black, but
because she saw him as to new to the political world to be a real threat.

I do not care about race myself but the republican party is going to have to start reaching out to others races and even different groups if they are going
to get back into power. The way it stands now they always have the risk of losing their own voters, but not much chance of picking up a new set of voters.

Not really. The blacks are slowly realizing that they are trophies and mascots to the Dems.

Obama was in the right place at the right time. He is Richard Daley’s puppet. He has no appreciable experience.

My point is there aren’t that many blacks in power in the Democrat party considering they vote 95% for democrat candidates.

FWIW Republican’s shouldn’t reach out to any particular race. Wouldn’t you think it’s racist to do so?

This notion is a rightwing pipe dream.  If you (or any other erudite writer at the National Review) are seriously considering the presence of blacks at high levels of government to be for token purposes only, then it would be dishonest to ignore the token blacks in the Republican Bush Administration.

Makes you wonder why they haven’t flocked in droves to join you in the Republican Party, doesn’t it?

The GOP doesn’t need blacks.  Latinos will make up the difference.

That would explain Why President Bush and McCain wanted to give amnesty to all illegal immigrants from Mexico.

Your right the Republicans do need to reach out to anyone else, they can simply continue to lose races across the country.
