I have noted mention of the death penalty on another thred and it makes me ask the question of has any elected leader during our times made prison reform a topic/issue? I think it is an issue worth of debate.

Is there something specific that you want to propose?

I would like to see more public work done by prisoners who have to much time on their hands to think. I disagree with letting them play basketball and lift weights as being part of their punishment. The punishment should be work that benefits society.

If this is a topic that intests you, you should go to Angola for a tour.  I think you may be surprised.

Nope.  Don’t even think it.  Not the governor.  He has a job to do (God bless him and help keep him focused on governing and not on imposing his personal religious interpretations on the rest of us) while I’m just a moderate gadfly ... which in Louisiana they call “liberal.” --Faux Bobby Jindal

Yes.. I heard a piece this morning about some other states using inmates as volunteer firemen in the neighboring area.. They choose the non-violent inmates, who display good behavior.. These inmates get fire training, and are paid more.. Seems like a good idea.

Who here has been on the Angola tour?  What did it cover?  I didn’t know about it.  I suppose you get to ... come back home afterwards!

I went on the Angola tour when I was in High School.  I assume they still do it.

I would suggest going during the Angola Prison Rodeo in October, and there is a smaller rodeo in April.  I promise you it will be a learning experience and one that you will remember.

Tent cities would be a good start.

Physical castration of child rapists, and no longer separating them or keeping their offenses hidden from the general population.

American voters wanted change, and so do I.

The Republican Party needs to CHANGE its leadership.

I went on it a couple of years ago. We took a bus around the whole thing, watched the inmates farm and what not. Got to get out and see the old buildings that they used to use as jails. Really a very interesting tour.

I got to get on the lethal injection table. Burl took an extra 20 for that.

I will not veto this as it is very clear to everyone that the result would be a grinding halt to the tremendous reforms and progress our state is making. I will give them no excuse to stop doing the people’s business, and I will not allow the momentum of our state to stop over this or anything else."--Bobby Jindal

We are not only talking about Angola, but the local jails. I have been on the Angola tours and the rodeos. I think if we pay for prisoners they should have to work for their keep as well as work to benefit the society they have abused. We could have free lunches for all the elderly and schools sytems without the tax payers picking up the tab other than seed and fertilizer. I am tired of seeing them playing basketball as I go to work everyday so that they can continue with their basket ball games and lifting weights.
