“General Petraeus or General Betray Us?” reads the full-page ad (CLICK HERE), which cost the liberal group MoveOn.org approximately $65,000 and ran in section A of today’s New York Times.

And the dim’s don’t disagree.  Yet none have the guts to open do so.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Iraq commander Gen. David Petraeus appeared before the U.S. Congress on Monday to give testimony in which he was expected to argue against withdrawing the bulk of U.S. forces from Iraq for now.

Appearing with U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker, Petraeus listened to deep skepticism from the Democrats who seized control of Congress last year largely because of the profound discontent with the war among American voters.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton, a Missouri Democrat, began the hearing by telling Petraeus the Iraq war had left the United States unable to confront other challenges.

Even before Patreus spoke, dim’s had already made up their minds.

Do you disagree with Skelton’s comments about the state of our military readiness and ability to confront other threats?

That about sizes it up. Hat tip Instapundit

McCarthy’s reign of terror ended with this famous retort from Army counsel Joseph Welch aimed at the over-reaching Senator:

You’ve done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?

Fifty-three years after that moment, Moveon’s modern McCarthyites have cowed their party into a corner, and nearly pushed America to the brink of declaring a war’s defeat in the midst of a victorious battle. But Moveon went too far. They took on the Army–even going so far as to declare General Petraeus to be a traitor.

The Far Left has left no sense of decency.

"It is like a theater,” said teacher Abdullah Kadhim, 58, who, like others interviewed for this article, was watching the congressional hearing live on Al-Hurra television at a general store in an inner Baghdad neighborhood.

“Each day, they say there is a new report. They say they will bring a new change in Iraq. We can only hope there will finally be progress in security,” Mr. Kadhim said.

Saleh Adnan, 34, a car mechanic, also watching the broadcast, was dismissive.

“I don’t think this will change anything in our country because the Americans will never leave Iraq. For us, the main point is when the occupation will end,” said Mr. Adnan.

“For me, the main report will be the one which announces the American departure.”

Nope.  Don’t even think it.  Not the governor.  He has a job to do (God bless him and help keep him focused on governing and not on imposing his personal religious interpretations on the rest of us) while I’m just a moderate gadfly ... which in Louisiana they call “liberal.” --Faux Bobby Jindal

Abdullah is supposed to be the guy we are helping.  That is probably why the Washington Times found it newsworthy.

You just made fun of Abdullah, now you say I am slighting him.  Why not just admit at least that there is a chance that our policy so far has not done well, and that “more of the same” is usually, for any business or public entity, a suspect policy in such circumstances.

I say, stay the course.. Look to Korea or Europe as a model.

“No one wants to call [Petraeus] a liar on national TV,” noted one Democratic senator, who spoke on the condition on anonymity. “The expectation is that the outside groups will do this for us.”

They should name the Democrat Senator.
