should be recalled. Their action on this issue trumps all their campaign b.s.
NOW that I know this I would NEVER vote for Greene again. I’m glad he beat Sean R. ,but looks like he’s a crook ,too.
a 222% increase....
Foil is in my district. As far my vote goes he’s out next election. If someone wants to start a recall I’m all for it too but I won’t even pretend that I can organize such a thing.
Candidates should not be defined on one vote or one issue, even if that one issue is something like abortion, gun control, or legislative pay raises.
While I respect your opinion they should have thought about that before they stirred the hornets nest. They have pissed off the people of this state and it will not be dropped. The only recourse we have at this point is to have them recalled or vote them out.

This is not just one issue. Legislators have been robbing the people of this state for decades. Now they going to do it and flaunt it in our faces. Its time to stop the madness. Most of these legislators have been in politics for quite a while and they still think the people of this state are stupid and can do nothing about it. Its time we showed them they are wrong and they are here to serve us.
I think a pay raise is in order since the last raise for basic salary was 28 years ago in 1980. If want good people to run for the job, then you have to pay a decent salary. Additionall, we have restricted our ability to earn income in light of the recent ethics rules that we passed and applied to us immediately. The adjusted salary since 1980 would be close to 60,000. Unfortunately the Legislature did not have the courage to vote for any pay raise since that time, so I do not think 37,500 is an exorbianant amount to pay people you want to lead the State.
I have the ability to make good money in my legal practice, so I could easily voted no and I would be fine with the existing salary. However, I ran on a platform that I was going to do the right thing regardless of my chances for reelection. I think you get what you pay for and we can certainly do better with our State Legislature. This was a difficult decision, because it would have been a very easy no vote to make, but I have no confidence that this issue would be addressed in later years.
Nevertheless, I have gotten significant legislation through this session including my bill on autism coverage for children, so I hope you will consider my service worth the pay increase. I hope you will consider my whole record over four years before you make a decision. I wanted to take the time to write you an individual note, because I do value your opinion, thanks.

Typed exactly as I received it.
That isn’t good enough for me. Maybe he should look up the pay for legislators nationwide and see that is insane to think they somehow deserve this kind of raise. If Louisiana ranked somewhere in the top ten for indicators like heath care, education, etc. then maybe they would be worth 60,000. The shape the state is in right now they are barely worth what they get paid now. If they start bringing Louisiana up in the scales then we could vote on it later and I would not be opposed to a raise. He took the job knowing what it paid. If he wants a raise he needs to put it to the people. Otherwise he needs to understand and accept that he and all the other legislators took this job knowing exactly what they were in for.
Louisiana ranks at the bottom in healthcare, protecting children, life expectancy of an infant, illiteracy, education, environment. The highway and infrastructure system are disgraceful. We lose more of our young people each year in outward migration than any other Southern state loses in a decade. This session a move to raise teacher pay by only $1,000 was whittled to a concurrent resolution with a promise to try and find the funding. The ethics session was a joke. They’re already repairing the screw-ups. I mean come on people.
Look at the Southern states of Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina. Now look at Louisiana. We have serious problems. To think after only six months in office that the most pressing and emotional issue our legislature and governor settled on is raising their pay to the ninth highest in the nation borders on ridiculous.
That is what this session will be noted for. Not solving or even attempting to solve the pressing issues that are crippling LA’s economy and future. The priority has been fixated on higher salaries for the governor’s staff and now the legislature. Interesting to note that on those two issues they can claim great success.
I wonder why jindal was willing to fight giving tax money back to the people because he said the state could not afford it, but now he says this is not my problem and do not contact me over this raise. If the state can not afford tax refunds where is all this money coming from ?
