“Congress is scrambling to pass the Pentagon budget, aid for flood and hurricane victims and $25 billion in loans for Detroit automakers in a late-session burst of activity that’s flying under the radar compared with efforts to bail out Wall Street. A stopgap bill must pass to avoid a government shutdown, so Democrats are viewing it as a locomotive to pull past a skeptical White House measures such as the automaker loan and a doubling of home heating subsidies for the poor.
Details of the emerging legislation remain secret, but its outlines have come out in interviews with aides to both the House and Senate Appropriations committees, as well as aides to top House and Senate leaders.
The legislation is coming together in a remarkably secretive process in which decisions are concentrated in the hands of just a few lawmakers such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis.
The unusual process means thousands of lawmakers’ pet projects of the very sort blasted by GOP presidential nominee John McCain on the campaign trail would escape scrutiny, including up to $5 billion worth of such “earmarks” in the defense budget alone.”
Isn’t this a typical Dem power play - load up the needed bill with pork - in secret!

With Bush wanting to spend 700 billion to a trillion dollars, how much pork are we talking about ?
Are Republicans saying 700 billion to a trillion dollars for the rich is not pork ,but a little money for the poor most be pork ?

Perhaps you should ask obama, since he’s also pushing this bill to fix the boondoggle created by the dimocrats.

McCain and Bush are responsible and McCain Lie of saying the bad economy is all in the imagination of the voters show McCain is a big part of the problem.
Why did Bush and McCain refuse to admit there was a problem with the economy until now ?

this mess is a problem of no regulations in an area that needed them. the former texas sen phil gramm was responsible for keeping collateralized debt obligations exempt from federal regulatory oversight in 2000, this is well documented. add to that the frivolous attitude by some republicans today that no regulation is ever a good thing, and you get the mess we are in right now. in a country as big as ours nobody can say fault lies entirely with one party, but there is very little that falls the democrats way when you take into account gramms legislation, the bush presidency the last eight years that avoided agency regulation at all costs and even watered down quite a few in the process, and the republican congress that had their hands on the power to draft and revise legislation twelve of the last fourteen years.
Bush tried to push legislation in 20003 and 2004 that would have prevented this.. The dimocrats blocked it.
Laughing until my sides hurt. Bush only wanted to keep the vets and the poor from getting better health care, while he gave us a trillion dollar deficit.

My but you are a pathetic little man. Oh, your persona is slipping. Watch that syntax.

It is very funny to watch republicans cry a billion dollars is pork, while president Bush wants to give away a trillion dollars to his rich friends. It would be a shame
if the people who caused this problem lost their own money.
Notice Bush wanted to just give them the money and let them collect their checks as always.
