If you drive around Uptown New Orleans, off the main avenues and into the neighborhoods, you’ll actually see a surprising number of McCain/Palin signs. They easily outnumber the Obama ones. When you see an Obama sign you almost always see a Landrieu one too. But when you see a McCain one you rarely see a Kennedy sign. Most of the time all you’ll see is a McCain sign on a lawn. Alone.
I would suspect that many of those who have Obama signs probably got those signs at Landrieu headquarters, but why isn’t this the case with Kennedy? I do think of course that many of those who have McCain signs will vote for Kennedy, if they vote for anyone. But I also think that nearly all of those that have Obama signs will also vote for Landrieu.
It is this lack of enthusiasm on the part of Republicans for Kennedy’s campaign that could well doom Kennedy. Four years ago if you’d see a “W” or Bush sign, you can bet you saw a Vitter one too.
