In Ward 13, Pct 10 in New Orleans, which votes at Newman School, went for Landrieu by a 60-40 split. In 2002 Terrell won this pct with a 51-49 split. Obama won this pct today by a 51-49 split.

For the total five precincts that vote at Newman Landrieu won 984-186.  The 984 votes she received today is 91 more than she received for these five precincts in 2002.  In other words not only did Landrieu increase her winning spread for these prcts from 82% to 84%, but she picked up about 70 more votes than normal because of the increase in turnout.

I don’t think any of the numbers in the senate race are from Orleans.

I thought Cazayoux would win fairly easily—I was wrong.

I was just looking at some precincts in the 14th Ward in New Orleans. This is called the Silk Stockings ward and it covers the neighborhoods around Audubon Park and Tulane. There are a lot of Republican votes in this area. John Hainkel was from the area, and I think, Rob Couhig.  In the three precincts that I have numbers in now, Terrell won all three in 2002 with pcts of 57%, 52% and 51%. This time Landrieu won the same precincts with 50%, 63% and 65%. Landrieu went from getting 478 votes in these three precincts in 2002 to getting 688 votes in these same three precincts today.

Even in Lakeview, the most conservative area of New Orleans, Landrieu improved her position significantly. In two particular precincts in the 4th Ward in Lakeview, in 2002 Terrell won by a 2-1 margin, with 66% of the vote, but today Kennedy squeeked by with 52% and 53% of the vote.

How can some people be so stupid? It amazes me that people think she’s been a good senator. She did nothing until after Katrina when she felt guilty that she had done nothing.

If you are part of a society that votes, then do so. There may be no candidates and no measures you want to vote for . . but there are certain to be ones you want to vote against. In case of doubt, vote against. By this rule you will rarely go wrong. - Robert Heinlein

That is not the issue, it’s not a referendum. The question is, did the challenger make the case for himself? The Kerry supporter and far-left candidate of the 04 senate race was not able to sell himself as the principled conservative alternative- which as it happened would have been a tough sell had it been true.
