Lincoln. Yes he and his republican party freed the slaves… The dimocrats fought it tooth and nail, then formed the KKK.

And in 1964 all the racist dems jumped ship and joined the republican party, where they continue to ply their trade.

Like Robert KKK Byrd?

Not every racist Democrat became a Republican.  That doesn’t change the fact that the GOP ascended to relevance through a racist “Southern strategy” in the wake of the Civil Rights movement.  Hey, why take the chance trying to explain fiscal conservatism to a redneck when the GOP could just say “Democrats are ###### lovers” at get the desired result - Republican votes - faster and with less effort.  The result today is a Republican party that is 98% white, restricted to the South and midwest, dependent on fundamental Christianity as a unifying force, and unequivocally anti-intellectual.

The irony is that had they not taken the easy road back then they would still be relevant today, as opposed to being a regional party for the foreseeable future.

Johnson couldn’t have passed the civil rights without the Republicans voting it through. I guess you missed that part in history class.

You’re hung up on a fact that has never been disputed on this forum by me or anyone else.

What you can’t seem to comprehend is how much different both the Democratic and Republican Parties are today than they were in 1964.  The people who voted in those Yankee and Western Republicans that voted for Johnson’s civil rights legislation are all Democrats now voting solidly for Democrats, while the people who voted then Democrats Strom Thurmond and Jessie Helms into office through their opposition to civil rights are all Republicans now voting solidly for Republicans who preach the same white, fundamentalist Christian exclusiveness as what was heard 50 years ago.

I love it when people post facts instead of fantasy or when they use their smoke and mirror act as I like to call it.

That lev sure likes to imagine things in very neat categories.  It isn’t that simple.

I see, so what is up with putting Obama in the category of Socialist, if this situation is not that simple?  Is the pot not as black as the kettle?

That is what I thought...because the pot is the pot and the kettle...well...it is only the kettle!

Why did the ATF go to the Branch Davidian Compound, Leon?

I’ll ask again, do you really think the Branch Davidians are 2nd Amdendment martyrs?  If yes, how so?

Martyrs? No.
2nd Amendment victims of Clinton and Reno? Yes.
Now you answer...Why did the ATF go to the Branch Davidian Compound, Leon?

You need to get your facts straight, particularly the time line.

The Branch Davidian Siege began on February 28, 1993

Janet Reno was nominated for AG on February 11, 1993 but not confirmed by the Senate until March 11, 1993.  In other words, the siege was already underway for two weeks and planned years in advance by the Reagan administration before she was forced to take charge of it.

I think the Branch Davidians deserved everything they got, but to lay that at Janet Reno’s feet is just stupid.  But then you’re a republican--I repeat myself.

Good try, but the Branch Davidians were killed on April 19, 1993 and Reno (according to Bill Clinton) was “in charge”.

According to Bill Clinton’s book, “My Life”...When Attorney General Janet Reno insisted on giving the FBI authorization to storm the compound of the religious cult, Clinton wrote, “I told her that if she thought it was the right thing to do, she should go ahead.”

But I’m sure you know better than the President who was in charge.

Reagan? You seriously believe that? The investigation began in 1992. Do you think Ronald Reagan was President then BigEasy? The raid was planed and carried out by the Clinton Administration. It was Janet Reno that decided to send tank with teargas.

You really should watch the BBC production “The Rules of Engagement”, and quit believing evertything you read on DU.

Now none of that is relative to the assertion from Leon. If these people weren’t being besieged on 2nd Amendment grounds, why was the ATF at the Compound?

Sorry, I forgot about Bush 43, an easy thing to do.  The point is that Clinton was not the president in 1992. The election was in 1992, but he wasn’t inaugurated until 1993.  But an astute fellow like you must know that, eh?

FRED aneurysms can show up anywhere, but the frequently happen in the brain.  They are caused by High Blood pressure, not a bad heart.
